I have two Kookaburras that visit my house every day. They are trying to get into the range hood outlet and have smashed off the original cover. I have made a new cover from thick steel mesh but they keep smashing into this trying to dislodge it. This starts about six in the morning and they keep coming back all day. I spray them with a water pistol and they go away for a short time but keep returning.
I don't want to hurt or kill them I just them to go stop smashing into the side of the house.
Any ideas.
Jeff

a product that deters birds is flash tape , apparently the reflective tape is a great bird stopper .
they want to nest, ide suggest making a hollow log and hanging it close to the vent. hopefully they might like the log.
cheers phil
I don't use them, but a lot of vineyards around here hang CDs on string at the end of their rows to discourage birds. No idea if this would work on a kookaburra, but cheap to try.
We use the old fashioned shotgun to scare the birds away here, but that's not a good idea with kookaburras![]()
Hmmmmmmmmmm .... you could always send them to me![]()

Now that you have made this public, be very careful what you do. You are NOT allowed to disturb native fauna at all. I work in a major theme park and found a ravens nest very close to public access and we are not allowed to move it. Dunno what happens if a child is pecked in the eye or similar because this nest is very close to where children (and adults) access one of the parks attractions. This point was raised and we were told we couldnt move it.
Hi Jeff, maybe you could hang something like shade cloth or polytarp a short distance away from the outlet so that they have to encounter that before hitting the mesh. Might slow them down and dissuade them from keeping on trying.Cheers, 130man.
