To buy...or not to Buy...please help me!!

Have just sold my 1999 Defender Extreme with the td5 motor reluctantly. Did have a few troubles with it in the 3 years I had it. Am currently looking at a 1997Defender dual cab with the 300tdi engine. It has done 244000kms. Am getting it checked out by Graeme Coopers in Sydney on Monday. Being from Tassie I would be buying unseen. Should I go for this bus or......

A 1999 Defender Dual Cab with a flat tray. td5 motor that has done 198000km's. I want a dual cab to tow my 4metre dinghy and go on caravan trips with the missus and 3 year old son.

The missus absolutley slated me for 3 years because of issues with our last defender..if I have issues with the new bus I dould never be allowed to buy a Land rover again!! I have $16k to spend on the dual cab. Please help me make the right decision

    mate you only live once..

    follow your instincts

    BUT

always get em checked by an independent landy specialist if at all possible.

i bought my last 300tdi off a guy in darwin without checks and it ended up being a pearler...

every other one i have bougt bar the current one i have had checked and feel it is well worth the couple of hundred dollars it can cost as the things that do tend to play up are usually big ticket items...

    Hmm
I say buy cheap and spend a few bucks on doing up or getting issues sorted so you know whats been done.
Regardless though always get them checked or buy from a fanatic.
A poor man pays twice, remember that and as someone above said, follow your instinct.

    Happy buying

NM, we've had people come in with older Jags who have had them checked over after paying, only to find they've bought a nail.

If the check from Graeme Coopers comes up ok I thought I would book a flight straight away to Sydney and go and check outboth the td5 and the 300tdi. To be honest I am leaning towards the 300tdi...everything seems to point towards it as far as reliability is concerned. Ony negative is it has done 50,000kms more than the td5....but I reckon I could get it for nearly 13k.
