Micky T MTZ v's Bighorns

I have been running 265/75 R16 MTZs on my 2.8 GU Patrol (joined this forum to research Defenders, as I was thinking of getting one in the next year or two, but at 185cm tall & 195cm arm span, just cant fit in one) for the last 2 years & around 35 000kms. I do most of my off road driving around the Blue Mountains, Brindabellas & this year a two week trip through the Vic high country. They are wearing faster than I would like & don't expect to get much more than about 55-60 000kms out of them. I hope the wear rate slows as they get older. It could just be all the power of the mighty 2.8 though.:burnrubber: They are also stating to chip quite a bit, mostly when driving in rocky areas. I can't fault their perfomance, both on & off road, though. I'm not sure if I would get them again, will have to see how the wear in the next year or two.:twobeers:

Another good option are Silverstone M117 sports i am running 285/75/16 on my D2 very aggressive tyre .........5 cost me 1300 fitted there are a few others i know that have had them 3yrs and still going strong
They do have a hum on the black top and awesome off road

Went into bob jane today and they told me that the shipment of bighorns they have are not load rated or speed rated one or the other and therfore they were not installing them on any vehicles.
They also said that they could not do a -25 offset rim in a land rover stud pattern, I probably dont need it but was thinking to go that way.

So now I am down to KM2's at 349 per tyre and the MTZ'z. KM2's being slightly cheaper, when I got prices on KM2's eairler they gave me the wrong price, they quoted me 390 odd which is why I did not consider them.

If i had the choice i would have gone for the KM2s over the MTZs but they were sold old, and i was told they would be a loooong way off in the size i was after

go the KM2s! BTW what size are you running?

Im very impressed with the maxxis so far, much nicer on the road then my MTRs ever were, next will be some offroad testing...

265/75/16 if I go any bigger I will need to do diff gears and that is another $1000 I would like to avoid spending at this stage.

I looked at the KM2's, in the end i went with the new MTR's, similarly agressive tread pattern and were slightly cheaper. But i agree the KM2's look the goods aswell.

Mickey T MTZ's aren't particularly noisy! I would go so far as to say they are quiet! I have about 5000k on mine and they seem to be holding out pretty well too!

If you can I say KM2's!

There is a D3 in our club that runs them and it is an awesome bit of kit offroad :)

I would second to that. I couldn't believe how quiet they were when I had them fitted to my car. I was comparing them to the Bighorns that one of my mates was running at the time, and they are much quieter. I like the MTZ as they have quite an aggressive side tread, which works very well especially in muddy conditions.
