I thought that the members of AULRO might be interested in the progress of this cycling expedition round Australia to raise awareness of Reachout.com Reachout.com is a web based service provided by The Inspire Foundation that aims to improve the mental health and wellbeing of young people aged 14-25 years by providing information, support and skills development for young people and working with health professionals to strengthen the pathways between online and community based service delivery.

Hi John
Thought I might quickly update you on the progress of the AUSyouthcycle project. Firstly I would like to express my thanks and acknowledge your kind support of the expedition. The support of EFTel has simply made this project possible and for that I thank you.
To date we have traveled over 2,700km in five weeks. We battled hard up the East coast and into the unseasonable north wester and associated higher than average temperature but made good progress which included some rest days here and there. We traveled all the way up the coast to Cairns where we stopped for a couple of days as it was to be the last major centre before the long overland haul to Darwin. After leaving Cairns we turned West, climbing steeply up on to the Tablelands (1,200m climb in two days) and across QLD gulf country to our present location in Normanton. We are currently in this tiny and remote town 700km west of Cairns awaiting off-road tyres for our bikes that were initially lost by Australia Post. This gear will be necessary as we now, over the next two weeks head 780km off road across remote terrain and savannah to Boroloola, rejoining the bitumen before heading to Daly Waters, the highway to Katherine and eventually on to Darwin. The next couple of weeks are going to be a bit of an unknown (water supply etc) and tough (heat/humidity) but looking forward to it!
After a bit of a slow start, our new website is now up and running and is a real focal point for those interested in our project and to track our progress. We are making full use of the latest in equipment technology (Toughbook, GPS etc), software and social networking to bring the journey and our story to those at home. We hope that by continuing our media presence and promotional activities in conjunction with the website we will best maximise our exposure, meet our objectives and highlight the involvement of EFTel with the project.
For your interest I have attached some photos and please do not hesitate to ask for more if you would like them. Thanks and kind regards
