l-email from fiona simpson... thankyou for contacting my office regarding news reports about a petition i tabled in the parliament on behalf of a constituent regarding their views on four-wheel drives being banned in certain areas and the way registration is assessed. Unfortunately it has been wrongly reported. I was as suprised as u were when i heard the radio and saw the newspaper reports as i have not commented upon the principle petitioners views expressed in his petition, let alone endorsed these views. mp's routinely table petitions written by constituents who are presenting contentious points of debate which are not necessarily held by the MP's. I have allways believed it was a citizens tight to have petitions tabled. I do not support bans upon four wheel drives nor do i support these proposals regarding registration. Yours sincerely Fiona Simpson mp shadow minister for transport and main roads decent of her to reply so quickly with a different view on the subject

I hope that wasn't copy and pasted from the email. I'd hate to think an MP would type like a 2 year old

    Interesting that:

    A) a minister replied in person to an email on a relatively insignificant part of her portfolio. She has a personal staff, plus the staff of her reporting agencies to do that.

B ) It is riddled from top to bottom with spelling and grammatical errors.

    C) She expressly recounted her support for the petition. This is very out of character for a minister, as their role is to represent the views of the public and hence they will almost always 'sit on the fence' on such issues.

    D) It is written very poorly - not at all in the typical style or wording of a ministerial letter.

As someone who writes ministerials for a living, it doesn't sit right with me. I'll let you all draw your own conclusions though.

no time to send a message! I just rang fionas office.

She is in parliment till friday (apparently), the ladie was very polite and honestly there must be too much time on these peoples hands.

But the lovely ladie has told me that while Fiona has elected to table the constituent, it is in no way her personal view or opinion.

Obviously I places the query that why would she offer to table if she did not agree, so obviusly she has some form of agreement with the 20thou people who signed it to start with....

Phone call was a complete waste of time as I didnt get any enjoyment out of it.

I was really hoping for her to attempt an arguement, but alas i was too polite and so was she. DAMN!

Edit: also good to see she doesnt agree with it. I might go down to the school this arvo and ask parents there own opinion... I am honestly curious and open to the opinions that these anti 4wd people have. I want to learn why or when the sand was left in their pantys!

She isn't the minister... shes in the opposition. I got a similar email but with different wording..

I can understand the point that a petition that is supported by a number of people should be raised in the parliment but you have to question what the media are doing in their reporting because every article I've read implies direct support for the petition from Fiona Simpson.

In QLD, We cursed by a dodgy state government and a sensationlist main paper. I know other states probably have the same sensationlism but we only have one main paper which is a major problem.
