    I.D. Help.

I just bought this Land Rover and it was sold to me as a Series 2a 88, which was apparently made 1975.

After reading my 'Guide to Purchase & DIY Restoration Land-Rover Series 1, 2 & 3', I'm starting to think that I may have bought myself a Series 3.

Can anyone tell me one way or the other what series it is by looking at the picture?

    Thanks

well I'm no buff here....so we shall wait for the oh knowledgable ones to come along...
there are some similarity's between the late 2a and the 3 the headlights in the wings at the front for a start the dual window wipers..etc, however it has county/defender looking door hinges not 2a looking door hinges and what appear to be late mirrors (although could be fitted by owner) which I thought on the 2a were on the wing tops near the front of the vehicle so if I had to guess I would say a 3....but that is a guess so lets see what others come up with
Our Land Rover does not leak oil! it just marks its territory.......

It is a series 3 - it will have a "plastic" dash board with the instruments in front of the driver - a series 2A will have a traditional steel dash with instruments in the centre of the dash just in front of the gear lever.

Also Series 3s came out late 71 early 72 so if yours is a 75 it will be a a series 3. Series also have a fully synchro gearbox where series 2a have a crash box in first (and second????).

To be fair, the pic shows features of a SIII, namely the door hinges and the grille. Having said that, those parts are easily transferred from one vehicle to another. The dash board is less easy to transfer, so if it has a plastic dash it should be a SIII. Likewise, the last SIIa models were built in 1971, so if it is definitely a 1975 MY it will be a SIII.

Yep, all of you are right, it's a Series 3..

How did I discover this for certain?? It's written on the bloody plate by the gear stick...! Idiot.

Oh well, now I can start to work out what I'm going to do with my Series 3.

    Thanks to you all.
