Barack Obama Nobel Peace Prize

Its as bad as a rigged boxing match or the vote for school captain.

A bit offensive really to all the people in the world that might have actually accomplished something in the last year that in that particular field.

The Nobel awards are nothing but politics and this is just some kiss-a**e who wants to make a name for themselves by promoting a US president. Follow the money, as they say.

It is 100% fantasy, especially when you consider it is the probably the most aggressive nation in international politics. But I suppose it's the kind of peace you have from the likes of the Empire storm troopers in Star Wars or Farscape Peacekeepers. Be peaceful or die.

Actually the US is easily the least aggressive superpower in history. Given the amount of power they actually have, they have never gone around the world conquering and occupying like everyone else from the extremely cruel Assyrians and through Genghis Khan and the Poms. And when finally drawn into a world war and winning they established the Marshall Plan to restore the nations they had vanquished. That is unprecedented in world history.

The Yanks aren't perfect by any stretch, but credit where credit is due.

WRT to Obama and the peace prize - yes, definitely too early. Whether he will actually deserve it in the long term remains to be seen.

I don't disagree with you, Chucaro. The Yanks, like anyone else, are far from perfect. Some of the goings on in South America are a testimony to that.

But I stand by my statement that the US is still the least aggressive superpower in history. All other superpowers in history would simply have invaded and occupied for as long as they could. Like the Spaniards did in much of South America.

I'm really not sure about this. I must say though he is one of the best speakers I've ever watched. I reckon he could do a powerful 15 minute speech that would have the world transfixed about the his security guard not zipping his fly after a trip to the bathroom :eek:

True. But they still invaded and stayed for centuries. And weren't always particularly nice about it either. Just check out what they did to Jerusalem in 70 AD.
