Is it for a Puma, or a transit?

If it's a Puma then surely it would be under warranty. Can't see it being $3K. A TD5 pump for a Defender is just over a grand (from memory - The Disco version is cheaper I think) so $3K sounds well over the top.

The fuel pump on the puma/transit is on the engine block and is part of the fuel rail. Yes they do cost $3k as a bloke at work with a tranny had his fail. his didn't leak but the electricals died.

All I can say is Gawd!! I thought the TD5 pump was overpriced.

I've bought whole cars that cost less than that!

This presumably is not the pump that shifts fuel from the tank but the pump that generate the high pressure in the fuel rail?

The Td5 doesn't have one of those as the unit injectors do that job (which is why Td5 injectors are so expensive).

Sounds like Defender owners are going to have to develop a piggy bank account for when they get out of warranty. 3K for a fuel pump. Yikes. That is almost a V8. Regards Philip A

Trivia time: The Td5 design was particularly clever considering the pressures generated by the injectors. I read recently where the US special forces had wanted a diesel vehicle for use in the first Iraq war which would run on aviation kero... without special additives - so they bought the Landrovers because all the development work on the Td5 injection system had been done on kero as worst case scenario!

The engineering in some of the latest pizzo-electric diesel injectors is literally amazing...they are programmed to fire up to 6 times -at a precise interval - on each compression stroke... if they need repairing... take a second job to pay the bills...

LR supply an exchange pump for around $700 so $3000 sounds a little exxy IMO.
