good cars, Valiants. Had AP5, VC, CL, two CM's. A CM wagon with a 340TA crate engine which got very floaty at around 220k's and never got fully wound out because of this, and a 265 ute which was a marvellous workhorse, daily driver, and tug/tourer.

My 1970 Dodge Challenger with Hemi 426 got around 12mpg in normal use, and 6-8 if you asked it to go.

Valiants floating?? ... Never heard of it // thought it was standard good ol yank suspension at it's prime

Try the 69 Hemi 245 at 90 mph ... you could go faster, IF you didn't get so seasick

The Hemi Challenger was a standard convertible body with no aerodynamic aids and it got bloody floaty at 220+. Still had heaps left in it at that. It could wheelspin at 120mph in third gear on dry concrete (Concord Road).

Nothing wrong with Valiant suspension if you built it for the application. Soft ride family car is what they came as. Change torsion bars, fit Aeon rubber suspension lumps instead of rubber bump stops, lower the inner pivots of the upper control arms by as much as you could, all polyurethane bushes, heavy anti-roll bar. For the rear, utility springs and add an extra second leaf upside down and Kurtis pattern Jacobs Ladders for lateral location. Good gas shocks all around and the old growlers handle like a race car. They do need a front air dam and a rear spoiler to pin them down at higher speeds.

XH, six cylinder auto.
