Anyone watch Four Corners last night ?

It will be repeated tonight at 11-30-pm on ABC 1.
It was about Afgahnistan and where the money has gone !!!
Talk about winning the hearts and minds.
Two only, important things have changed.
    1. Fewer women are being publicly executed.
    2. Girls are going to school, even tho they are being taught outdoors, after eight years and Billions of aid dollars still pouring into the country, not one school has been built.
One new big Hospital was built five years ago but is now almost deserted because it is crumbling away. The UN, aid bodies and the western profiteers that follow the war machines around the world are doing very nicely, thank you.
One thing tho, Afgahni exports are up. They now export 7,000 tons or
90 percent of the worlds heroin annually !!!
The poor people ( 95% ) are actually starving, have a look where the money is going.
It makes you feel good to be a part of it all.
I know some people are smarter than the average BOO BOO and wouldn't watch the ABC in a fit but have a look anyway.
    Ta.

Obviously I won't be watching it but yes, I agree, there is an alarming trend that contractors have found the easy way to get money out of governments (particularly the US government but not only them). Just witness the cleanup that was suppoed to have occurred in New Orleans.

Personally I believe the UN and World Bank are largely culpable.

Fair call Alan but the outsiders are only a small part of the problem over
    there.
The real deal is the Afgahni politicians and corrupt beauracrats, it's
unbelievable. Well not really. it's a common trend that we allow to happen.
It's sick sick sick !!! For what legitimate reason do we turn a blind eye ?
It certainly cant make the world a better or safer place. It can only
encourage civil war and a long term hatred of the west and we know what that leads too.
    Jeez.

    so what's new about that

only have to look at any large scale UN operation to see the corruption at work, many nations provide UN peace keepers as they get paid more money for their troops so its a money spinner

look at any foreign aid project done by any govt or semi govt agency and see the corruption and bribes

USA foreign aid since the 1950's been tied back to USA contractors and technology purchases so not really aid but USA govt subsidies for US companies.

Mate, it's not a UN operation really.
It's an American operation with some UN backing and active support from other Nations. Some of those would like to get the hell out rather than
be a part of what is happening and it's got nothing much to do with troop losses.
When I said that the outsiders were not the real problem, I meant the UN and the profiteers. It's quite plain to see who has messed up,as usual.

I urge you all to watch the program and ask ourselves, why we would bother ?

I agree. I saw it and was appalled. A small minority benefiting outrageously, whilst the majority suffer powerlessly.

All that money 'donated' and they couldn't show a single school that has been built.

No wonder some people want the Taliban to come back and get rid of the corruption.

Actually it is neither - it a NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organisation) operation with support from some Nato friendly countries like Australia.

NATO was originally established to counter Soviet activites in the European/North Atlantic area. With the demise of the USSR, NATO has been looking for something to do - particularly as the Russian Federation is moving towards becoming a member some time in the future - maybe if Russia was not having problems in its Black Sea republics and the associated crimes against humanity, Russia may have already been admitted.

Afghanistan is the first operation that NATO has conducted outside its normal area of operations.

Agree more needs to be done about the opium.

    watch it here
ABC iView | Internet TV Service

just watched the episode myself. bloody BS. We should stop giving this country money instantly. The other way of helping is to not give the local gov money but instead get the job done yuorself with your money. I have seen this happen in other countries, as soon as the gov gets hold of it, it very quickly becomes untracable and goes misssing. Its a good time to learn a lesson about giving aid money.
