I think it is largely because the Australian market is so much smaller than the UK market. This means that importers can expect stock to be on the shelf for a lot longer, so their margin has to be a lot higher. Not only is the total number of people in Australia a lot less than in the UK (and spread over a much larger area), but Landrovers are far less common. Cost of doing business in Australia may be higher than in the UK as well.
An additional factor is that while in the UK a significant part of the Landrover market is for workhorse vehicles, this segment is virtually non-existent in Australia, where for the last twenty years Landrover has marketed their products as an urban luxury vehicle, and to a very minor extent to enthusiasts. (Remember they dropped the 110 entirely when the Discovery was introduced and only very reluctantly reintroduced it as the Defender with limited models a couple of years later). And for luxury or enthusiast buyers, you can get away with charging more, particularly since surface mail from the UK has been dropped.
