camping spots on the Kiewa River (Vic)?

    G'day guys,
Just trying to work out where we're headed for a 5 day w/e whilst all the silly buggers throw their money at the horses. Years ago we went for a drive up along the Kiewa River not far from Freeburgh (near Bright). Anyone know if there is any decent camping spots along there? We're totally self sufficient so don't need any facilities and don't mind a bit of a rough track to get in (but we will have our off-road camper behind...so nothing totally silly) just a nice spot near the river. Oh, and we'll have our KRT (dog) with us so National Parks thanks.
    Ahhhh the tranquility

Hmmm.... this is the first time that I've posted on AULRO and not had one single response!
Maybe I should be reviewing where we're going lol.

    Gday mate

There are great camping spots on the Kiewa river but it doesnt run its course near Bright. The Kiewa runs from the Hills near Falls Creek and goes from Mt Beauty to the Murray near Killara. Now there are heaps of great spots to camp on. There is a C'van park at Mongans bridge or you could try camping at Gundowring which is near Dederang. The pub at Dederang do a great feed so its worth your while calling and saying gday to Dave the publican. If you get stuck send me a PM and I will drag out my books with my camping info.

I'd say do it, its a great area here in the North East. I call it Gods country and there is no bias at all.

    Cheers

    Rich

Did you mean the ovens River near Freeburgh rather than the Kiewa river in the Kiewa Valley?

And you're probably better off camping in the Buckland Valley - Hundreds of easy bush camp sites right on the Buckland River to choose from.

hi thanks for the Buckland Valley stuff but well... been there, done that. Hence the thoughts of doing the Kiewa Valley instead.

Boyds Rd Kergunyah south is a great spot or it could be Keegans lane south of Dederang, well worth checking out. I was camped up the buckland last weekend at Beveridge station. Guys Hut Sarah Spur - Australian Land Rover Owners will tell you all about it.
