its a wonderful ADD for the city though---
and will get shown all round the world.
to the promo guys,,
Has anybody got any thoughts on this "Party on The Bridge" thingo where they close the Sydney Harbour Bridge, turf it and throw in a few moo cows and have a big knees up?
What a waste of money, I am no party pooper but you party only when the house is in order and all the bills are paid. They say they are going to donate the grass to various state schools after it is all over. I am sure the schools would rather have the money spent on air-conditioning or replacing temporary class rooms with permanent ones.
The Pollies in power have completely lost the plot.
Over to you guys/gals.

Think the party on the bridge is bit of a joke myself. what was the point of it any way? not a big crowd lover anyway...
well its things like this that attract tourism.....
I think Australia is very inventive when it comes to ways of making oz look like its the place that everyone wants to be......
everyone forgets that although we have a very strong dollar at the Mo which is fantastic for us...its not so great for countries that want to visit...and the tourism suffers...doing little stunts like this I think helps keep the teasers out there and keeps the people coming in...the people that you really need to come in..
I personally dont mind....
Our Land Rover does not leak oil! it just marks its territory.......
maybe they should close it permanently, imagine the shopping arcade you could build there....hmmm ...does Australia own it yet?....because it doesnt just belong to Synnedy you know. I think we should have referendum and all vote to close it down, lay the grass permanently, set up led lighting at night like the new years fireworks and let it be australias and the worlds most famous public park.
Cost (admitted) - $1Million, real cost probably three times that based on past experiences like this and the hidden bits. Let alone the inconvenience.
Thousands breakfast on Harbour Bridge - Yahoo!7 News
"Around 40 per cent of the 10,620sqm of kikuyu turf laid down for the event will be transferred to parkland at Sydney Olympic Park."
They should have just put the grass there in the first place and had this nosh-up at Sydney Olympic Park - it is after all another seriously under-utilised facility, mainly because they charge too much for its use..........probably couldn't afford to hire it.
At least the Sydney Harbour Tunnel might have broke even today! It's already subsidised at over a $1Million a week by the RTA and from the Harbour Bridge tolls - that's the real reason why the Bridge toll has never been abolished. At that rate it's also extremely unlikely that the SHT "owners" will ever pay back the initial interest-free loan they got.

The analogy is probably summed up by the famous quote "Nero playing the fiddle while Rome burned"
