It's hard for you, but he knows and he's saying goodbye. Being with him and listening is very important for him. Treasure the time you have together with him.

Our hearts go out to you.

    Sad Goodbyes

    G'Day Mick,
I read your post and a lot of the other posts too. I am a newbie and at first I was not going to add anything to what has already been said, you don't know me from a bar of soap and seeing as how you have been on the Forum for a couple of years I guess you know some of the other members personally. So I hope I am not butting in.
I have thought about this for a couple of hours because I could tell by the tone of your posting that you are extremely upset, and as I have said I was not going to add anything.
It seems you know your grandfather very well and as some of the other members have said, they didn't know their grandfathers that well.
In my case on my maternal side all I can remember of my grandfather when I was a little tacker (about 5 or 6 years old) was a smiling man leaning over me with big teeth and gaps between his teeth. He was killed about this time so thats all I can remember.
On my paternal side my grandfather died six months before I was born and I was named after him. It is rather eerie when you visit the cemetry and you see your (his?) name on the headstone.
Please forgive me if I have intruded at this moment but treasure those memories.

    Kind regards Jim (Ausfree)

All the best - I hope everything goes as well as it possibly can. At least he sounds happy, which must be giving you all some comfort.

An old man's saying goes something like
" As you are, I once was and as I am, you will be"
I often look at the really old guys you see around and wonder what type of world beater they were in their hey day. Sounds like he'll live on in you which is a good thing and a goal to achieve. Your grandkids will someday say the same about you. Take care and comfort in having had someone so near and dear.
    cheers Gerald

I've just learned of Mick's grandfather's passing and this is a detrimental part of many guys lives. 15yrs ago I dealt with my Pa's passing, and not a day has gone without me thinking or missing him. I'm kind of choking up even writing this tbh.

From what I can gather, Mick's Pa was much like my own. He had an immense input to who Mick became, was someone greatly respected, had valuable lessons to impart and share, and ultimately was his 'rock'. This same person had done his bit to society and thought nothing of it. To lose someone like this is genuinely upsetting and a loss to us all, yet I know that such a man of importance is finally at peace.

My thoughts and well wishes are with Mick right now, as I'm certain that everyone else's are. Losing our hero is a rough time.
