I just received my home and contents renewal.
It seems to have risen I reckon by 70%.
I live in the Dandenong Ranges, so it is a bushfire potential area.
As it has been for the last 20 yrs I have lived here.
Seems I am now paying for Black Saturday![]()
Insurance companies never loose out when they have to pay out, they just add it to the premiums of others next time.
well you can look on the brightside ............
its only 70% and not more![]()
130's rule
Up our way there is a story in todays "Newcastle Herald" of a fella at Lorn near Maitland. He has his house insured with NRMA and they have been increasing premiums for houses they deem to be in flood prone areas since the "Pasha Bulka" storm in 2007. His premium went up to $5102pa(No that is not a misprint). But get this,he was NOT flooded out in the storm. He complained, to no avail of cause and then got a quote from another insurance company for less then $700.
Needless to say, he is taking his business elsewhere. I don't understand it, but there it is![]()
Did the internet quote thingy today.
The major banks $1200 to $2000
Suncorp on line was $100 cheaper than my renewal they sent me.
Bendigo bank reckons I didn't meet their security criteria ( even though everything has locks on it.
Budget direct..... sorry doesn't meet their risk criteria.
AAMI around the $760 mark.
This is way lower than the others, they reckon new for old what ever cost it is to rebuild. But what sort of quality wqill it be when finished.
Now I have a modest house, but have 24 carat Gold taps and an expensive spa bath. A porcelain $1000 dunny, ( Yes we do need some bling in our mundane lives, any way got them through reps through work at cost.
But AAMI might not ijnclude those?
Just be careful of online insurance quotes. We recently bought our Freelander and went online for a quote which was cheaper than the phone in quote. The insurance company would not honour the online quote even tho I had a hard copy to show them. Thats my experience so be careful!!!![]()
Hi It will be intresting to see what the ins co. charges my sister when her new house is complete, old one went in the recent fires at Kinglake.
She should get a discount, there wont be a bushfire up there for a long time, nothing left to burn!
Hope nothing like that happens this summer, especially in the Dandenongs, I have fought a couple of fires up there both were difficult to control due to the amount of bush lack of acsess and steep terrain.
Andrew
Hey Hiline since you live in the general area.
How's this.
Some insurance companies refuse to insure as we are an unacceptable risk.
Bendigo bank our community bank on line quote said we did not meet their "security" criteria, we have Deadlocks and window locks everywhere, (except we don't have Snipers posted with .50 machine guns on all points)
Youi insurance won't insure us either as we are too much a risk.
I think since the Gov opened up it's mouth about the bad forecast on fire season and named certain areas as high risk the insurance companies have gone hiding.
You might live at a post code that covers a vast area so every one is classed at risk, even though some live closer to forests than others. But they share a common postcode.
Also thanks to the Greenies that didn't allow clearing so fires can take hold.
And thanks to the Yarra Ranges council Bozos, who want to overturn the government ruling about clearing trees and scrubs close to homes without a permit
