    Zero alchohol?

The Commisioner for Queensland Police has called for a zero alchohol limit on all drivers, he is backed up by his Victorian counter-part. What a great revenue raiser that would be for the government. They rolling out the usual load of codswallop, we're doing it to reduce the road toll. PIFFLE. The claim being that 20% of accidents or fatalities, are alchohol related. That means 80% of incidents are due to the lack of alchohol. Using the revenue raisers logic, it's safer to have a drink or two.

Not me, but it gives me the nerps when these morons think up a new way to separate us from our hard earned, then expect us to believe their crap about how it's really for our benefit. They must think we're as stupid as they are.

I agree, it's all about revenue. Screw em, you can buy a drink on the net that masks alcohol and drugs. I'm stockin up now.

There have been recent reports about a third of DUIers get caught a second time.

Is that a surprise? Why do the police think that a problem drinker will suddenly stop drinking.

A zero limit won't solve that. Tougher penalties for first offence and severe penalties for second offence would be better.

If their rationale about the extent of the problem is true then treat the offence accordingly. That is what annoys me about speeding fines. if speeding is such a major problem then come down hard on it. Take away licences straight away for example. Their actions don't support their arguments.

Having said that, I couldn't care less if they made a zero limit. I enjoy the odd bourbon on a Friday night but I couldn't care less if I never had another drink.

I'm vehemently anti - alcohol in an automotive situation. However this is just silly. Did he say how many accidents occur where the driver has an alcohol reading of less than the limit?

This will just penalise people taking various medications and get people having a drink at lunch or the night before with a reading of .01. That's good business.

I'd suggest that they could get their boys out of their camera vans and try and check more people and keep those off the road who have been caught before.

I'm going on a rant but I've had my speed checked probably 100 times this year, and the last RBT for me was 2007. That's road safety for you...

Exactly Stew, a high profile person up here got busted a couple of weeks ago. He was considerablely over the limit, second time in 3 years, ........fined $500 and loss of licence for 3 months. Get real, should be two years loss of licence for first offence and fine equal to one months gross income; doubled for second offence, no time limit; and if you still haven't learnt, licence gone forever and a striped suntan.

The governments dismissal of "revenue raising" is rediculous as long as they continue to allow people to BUY back licences,,,,
