you cant change the path as it is random check to see if you have full suction as i have found mine does that as filter gets blocked up and i needs a bit more power to move past some places

they dont steer so much as move around randomly as dictated by a lot of external influences, try lengthening the hose , turning the hose around, adding some weights (or floats) to the hose or the head to change how it sits.

Thanks. I have cleaned the filter baskets, backwashed, etc. I know its supposed to be random but then how does it get stuck 6 times in 4 hours in the same spot?

As dave says try adding 1 section of hose i did this and clean filter before i put the kreepy in the pool seems to have worked

Had that problem with mine
If the hose is in sections,i used to undo all the sections & change them around,that is put the one closer to the head at the filter box etc.The hose gets some kind of memory,doing this sorts it out.

Dont have any probs these days,made sure when we moved we got a house without a pool,they do become a PITA.....

They are not random, but follow a replicable pattern, there is maths for it but I don't know enough!
Similar to a garden hose - if you hang on to a hose a few meters back from the snozzle and turn it on, it will dance around but in some spots more than others.
The hose(s) do indeed have a memory, every so often you should pull it out and lay straight against the edge, kinda resets it.
I just replaced the tubular valve thingy that actually does the suck -chug-suck-chug bit and the improvement was very noticeable.
We also have a few spots that it don't get and be buggered if I can persuade it! Tried different lengths, weight, everything, just clean em with a brush yourself or strap the brush onto your kids feet!.

Looking forward to jumping in again in the next few days...

I have exactly the same issue with mine.

I put a brand new Kreepy Krauly hose on it last week and the same thing seems to be happening.

I believe that ultimately with the shape of the pool etc, it tends to follow the path of least resistance. Even though the "hammer head" action is meant to make it random, I think the tension and twist in the hose plays a big part.

This invariably leads it to the corner near the bottom of the first step. This is by far the cleanest spot in our pool.
