Oh i am not disagreeing with you at all. one who fell of the back of a boat ( on the way to Russia) ( Dr Diesel fell of going to england) and the other wrote his own history" history will be kind to me for i shall write it"
but my point is, if it was not for Afghanistan and Katoom suffups it is possible we would never have been blessed with the leadership of the two mentioned
Churchill was considered a legend in the u.k. fab propaganda i reckon ....he was more like a drunk power hungry egotist ...not much different from hitler really just that one won and one lost.
Churchill should never be forgotten for the con he pulled on the irish and made them suffer more years under British rule in a back handed deal he concocted
well they did, and putin said dont do it. quote unquote.
never underestimate the russians, they are both simple and very complex
there goals have not changed since peter the great and will not change until they get what they want. they are simply
1 Southern ports, peter the great, the Crimean war, Potstan ( spelling) and now today and the invasion of Georgia, all for the same reasons, 3 very different excuses but the same reasons.
2 respect from the west as being an equal if not inferior to russia and russians.
NB the russian language is rather simple compared to english ( common usage) how ever where in english we have many words to describe respect, or admiration. in russian this is not the case. to respect some one is also to be in fear of that person.
to put it another way. i was asked by a russian who had quite a successful trucking business. he asked how do i "berate" my staff ( in NZ ), i said i dont i just ask. he said so how do you get them to work. simple i ask they do. it may sound silly but to berate yell scream and even hit your staff in russia is a rather common thing. if your staff do not have some fear of you, no work will be done.
back to Afghanistan, russia always trying to get one up on who ever they perceive as being more powerful or influential they saw Englands failure in Afghanistan as english weakness and bolstered by the crimean scrap, and an opatunity to show the world how much better they were than the poms. off to Afghanistan they go, and sort of failed as well, although they managed to hang on to some territory. then spent the next 100 years playing with there internal politics.
come the fall of the Shar of Iran. the US loses a puppet but takes one of the soviets in Iraq. the soviets are ****ed off about losing such a big market for there weapons, worse is the singing of the Egypt Israeli USA buddy buddy deal, Egypt was also a big buyer of soviet weapons. so over night the soviets have losed much and the us has losed a bit but gained more.
remember the Israeli 6 day war was manipulated by the soviets by providing rubbish intel to Syria and Egypt.
worse the US is now saber rattling at Iran. Iraq is getting ready to have a go as well ( at iran) a big loss of face for the soviets. but it got worse a hole bunch of US ships start hanging round the mouth of the persian gulf. the Soviets had to do some thing, pakistan was in the US camp and it looked like that all of the region would be lossed to soviet influence. so they invade Afghanistan. Oh at the request of the Afghani government LOL
this sort of back fired on them because now the region saw the soviets as a real invading force this seemed to push everyone a we bit closer to the US including Iran
The most famous story of the Boer War was that of Harry Morant, "The Breaker".
Lord Kitchener, the officer in charge of the British and Australian troops, issued an order stating that any enemy soldier who was captured wearing British or Australian uniforms should be shot
Breaker Morant and Lieutenant Peter Handcock followed that order and were court martialled and put to death by firing squadIn 1910 Kitchener visited Bathurst, the home town of Peter Handcock, whose wife and children still lived there. Kitchener refused to unveil a new war memorial until Handcock's name had been removed from the list of the fallen.
Handcock's wife had to be restrained at the opening because she insisted on bringing her children to meet Kitchener, the man who had wrongly executed their father and now had the hide to remove his name from the honour roll.
Her protest was in vain and she and her children were turned away, distraught and in tears
Well that just about sums up Lord Kitchener, lest we forget
was that fella's name ever re-instated to the cenotaph???
If not we should get that corrected pronto ...those numpty's were Victorian upper class ***** and used the colonies as cannon fodder with total disregard, any wrongs by them lot should be corrected asap.
unfortunately movies are not a good source of history. Harry Morant was not as all seem to believe he was. even if you remove the 20 or so Bores who were shot wearing parts of british uniforms, that still leaves the 1/2 doz or so who were not, there is also the 3(?) who were shot under a white flag as well as a noncombatant Missionary who he hunted down 2 days latter and killed because he was a witnesses. hardly the actions of a man who was acting under confidence of standing orders.
