    Freight Companies make no Sense

This has got me beat.I can send frozen freight to WA and SA from Darwin at a consinment note charge plus a flat cents per kilo rate...Easy makes perfect sense..BUT..
Send the same seafood to Melb or Sydney with the same company and things change..Consignment note charge plus pallet charge, so doesnt matter whether 1 put 10kgs or 750kgs on the Pallet its the same cost...
    Why is this so..

Anyway , to those people in Melb who contacted me about prawns, fear not the phone will be running hot on monday, and with some luck some suitable outcome will result...Seafood at christmas has been know to bribe people in very high places... if not we can try this approach

Can 1 of you let me know how ,my prices compared with down there please so I know how much to push this...

    Thanks and Cheers Ean

    Prawns

This may or may not cheer you up but it was reported this week in Brisbane's "courier mail' that Coles and woolworths have bought most of the catch from the Gulf of Carpentaria.Apparently the high Aussie dollar makes selling the catch overseas unecomonical so lower prices are predicted for this Christmas.
    Yeh pigs might fly too.
Cheers good luck with your venture.

Yeh its all the banana prawn catch from april/may and they have been doing it for years, It would be ok if they knew how to look after it.They are the worst promoters of Australian seafood as they dont know or care about the final presentation of it or how long it stays on display.
I used to supply them years ago and couldn't get out of the deal fast enough..
Make no mistake they will have a runout of it but when and how much you will pay im not sure.

    Thanks and Cheers Ean

At the moment in Melbourne Safeway/Woolies has 1kg of green coloured/green frozen praws for $26.95 I suspect that they are your non tiger variety. They might be 100mm.

I don't want to put you through extra trouble but if it comes to a choice between paying you or paying Coles or Woolies I'd rather pay you. However there is not much point if most of it is going to go to the freight company.

What is the pallet worth? two questions there I guess. One waht is the pallet charge? Two how much $ worth of prawns could we get on a pallet? Plenty of time to get a few people in on the deal if we need to buy a whole pallet although I don't know how I would go fronting $5k for a pallet of perishable goods!

How long would prawns keep frozen?

Thanks for offer and I will have a few pallets to sell, but you shouldn't have too, its a rort that they have to seperate rules.
Fear not the best person is on the job..MY Wife.. and like most women seems to be able to make the near impossible possible
On Mon will be onto the pump mob in Melb and find out who they use as they dont buy anywhere near a pallet so it is possible.

Answer to your Question, our cartons are marked with an 18mth shelf life, but we store them at minus 36, cold stores run about minus 25 so about 12mths and if you have a good domestic freezer 3mths..
Once thawed, as long as it takes to cook and eat..
That is why our packs are designed to seperate so you only take out what you need and dont have to thaw the whole box

a lot of frozen freight heads out of darwin on trains and as backload on empty reefer cons that brings stuff north.

IF your freight has to go on a run that can pick up a proper consignment then you have to pay for a full space.

It stupid but its the practicality and the handling that sets the standard.

I think the problem has to do with backloading. Plenty of full loads Mel/Syd to Perth, not so easy for the companies to get loads out of Perth hence charging a pallet rate.
