    Deefer to go All Independent??

To all of you who don't want to see any real changes to the defender, I read last week in the Herald Sun (Melb) that the new model Defender from Tata will almost certainly be all independent suspension due to the requirement of all military for their vehicles to be this way. The reason LR have had very little success in selling to any of the big powers over the last few years is the live axle configuration.

Live axles are very definitely going to be a thing of the past by 2014 it seems.

Looks like I'll just keep fixing my D2

I cant figure out why the military would want to go this way! More moving parts = more chances of breakages.

likewise, ill keep my D1 for some time yet.

I thought it was more due to their dead brain configuration?

I wouldn't be supprised to see the new defender come out as nothing more than a stripped out D3-4,something like the 100 series telecom specials. Pat

I wonder if they will give them an auto box?

I agree, solid axles will be a thing of the past very soon unfortunately. Yota is making one shape and just adjusting the size to differ between the Rav and the 200 series and looks like Datsun will be going the same way...Mits, Holden, Ford etc are no longer making anything like a serious offroader lets hope LR dont go down the same track so to speak

I might have half a chance of convincing SWMBO to buy one, but they will have to be about 20 years old before I can afford one.....
