    GPS died.

I have a Garmin Zumo550 GPS. been working flawlessly for I think around 3 years. I work as a courier and it gets a flogging, I can't be without it.
Ute went in for service today and when I picked it up the GPS is dead.
Will not start up on its own, in the cradle,in the charger or when connected to the computer. In fact when connected to the computer the computer doesn't even acknowledge anything is connected.

Any ideas? Do GPS's die,can they be fixed?

If it has any sort of "Enter" button, then hold the enter button down while switching on and wait for the first boot page.

Probably won't work but it's worth a try.

This has fixed my Garmin Egde 305 GPS and my Tom Tom. Although the fix for the Tom Tom was to hold the powwer button down until you see the boot page, but you get the idea.

    Worth a go!

Sounds like someone didn't isolate the battery before they did whatever they did and your GPS has been fried.

I thought the same as well, have not had any luck with this particular dealer. A problem on every service. However I checked the in line fuse and it is not blown. Am I correct assuming that the fuse being good means this has not happened?

Toyota dealer, not Land Rover. My work ute is a Hilux.

Sounds like your charger may have died and its flat, do you have another charging source..
the early model GPS came with an internal battery and i know the furuno ones we had on the boat died when that battery went flat reguardless of the power supply...But think that was rectified many years ago.

Have now tried it on four different charging methods, so it's probably not that either.
Work is going to be tricky today. Will have to do it the old fashioned way. With my refidex and brain.

Know how you feel, Our GPS compass died about 2 months ago so had to go back to old school course setting, and using the brain again is alot harder than it sounds..( for some anyway )
If its anything like half the electronics we use, it will be cheaper to buy new and get the so called warranty that comes with things..

After a few days without the GPS I decided to give the "dead" one a go. Wouldn't you know it. Fired up straight away, and working flawlessly again. Have 500 waypoints on it, so I saved them to the Defenders GPS and to a sd card in case it happens again.
    So far so good though.
