The company I worked with last year had one snap a crank and another chew out a thrust washer and a third snapped the injector pump gear off which also happened to a mate of mine,so yeh they don't fail. Pat

Now if a sign can fix your vehicle, then fine - but I'd bet 10:1 that the sign doesn't come with a big spare parts department however it would come with the odd toyota vehicle sitting under it and at least a bloke who can order you a part if/when needed... Landrover on the other hand you would likely have to make your own calls to get the parts in, therefore Toyotas are more reliable?? :P
I serviced, repaired tojo's for a while and I can tell you that anyone can order the parts but no one can get them.Toyota's parts supply network is a falicy. Pat

1HD-FTE.They are a good engine but break just like everything else.I get tired of people who say ''buy this you won't have an issue'',if that was the case about an 1/4 of the male population would be out of a job. Pat

To weigh into the argument re Toyota parts and supply, had a mate go to the cape earlier this year in a 100 series. Somewhere between Cooktown and Cairns on the way back, the thing erupted in a cloud of steam and water. The serpentine belt had let go, and on its way to putting a large crease in the bonnet took out the top radiater hose and tore the top tank off the radiater. Tilt tray back to Cairns and a two day wait for parts and repairs.

To put my two bob's worth in, I am sure that in the early days of the Perenties ,not only did Toyota fail the Helicopter drop but could not fulfill the basic requirment on parts supply. Now I may be wrong but I was given to understand that a certain number of years supply had to be maintained.Toyoto could not do that. Also I was again given to understand that the few Toyotas the army did have were green machines only and were not to be used off road.
Feel free to correct me if I am wrong.A lot of water has gone under the bridge since I was really in the know about the ADF.

A mechanic at work related the same to me from his army days. The Toymotas were not to go off road, that was for the Land Rovers.

At just over 160 Hp and with under 400NM of torque I would have thought these engines are well with in in their limits for a turboed 4.2. Heaps of them around here and all going well.
