    Good point coops.....Mmmmm

Think I'll put in an expression of interest anyway - I can always knock it back if I am successful.

Karatha is another option but thought Broome sounded nicerer.

Its not a bad spot, but is a fair bit over rated, expensive for everything so you would need to be earning $150k plus a year to be worthwhile if buying into the real estate market or even renting. We did like some time we spent there but you may get sick of the isolation fairly quick. A lot of people dont stay but a lot do. Probablly a good spot if you bought property 20 years ago. It is hot all the time so if you like the heat and isolation and it is good money and/or you are provided accommodation or subsidised then it may be for you. You are in an area that has a lot to offer for camping and 4wd.
We thought about it a couple of years ago when a job came up but as it only paid around $90k was not feasable to move.

Karatha is as expensive if not more so than Broome. Have a look at real estate prices, if you can get something, first. Lots of nice kini's in Broome

    Broome only has a tafe.
However there are 2 very good unis and few average ones down in Perth. A room in a share house will cost her ~$120-150/wk. She will probably enjoy being away from her parents

    Broome

Sleepy. From experience, you have to weigh up the advantages of moving and have a back- up plan if it doesn't work out.The main thing will be how your partner accepts the new life-style, as isolation, hot humid weather and unsettled kids can and does test even the strongest of relationships. If possible take your partner to Broome for a quick holiday and evaluate it.Things to check accomodation ,schools, medical and if possible contact some of the workers. The main thing is to have a plan as to why you made the move if its money- stick to a savings plan -as so many workers blow all their money I've known of whip arounds to help out mainly due gambling ,parties. This not saying not to enjoy yourself. The other trick to slip down to Perth or even back to Melb to have some R&R- get right away. One of the advantages can be later on the job may open other doors. At the moment, if you don't go ,you will wonder the rest of your life did you make the right decision.I wish the best of luck regards Lochie

    Thanks you lot.

All jokes aside, it is a big move and I appreciate the input. If it was me on me lonesome I would be there in a flash.

Wouldn't really do it for the money - I would earn the same here. Real estate seems about on par with Melbourne SE suburbs, just on a cursory glance at real estate web sites.

Job would be same as what I do here (aviation) so no big drama either (although some challanging weather )

I think the biggest hurdle is Kid1 (nearly 18 ), Kid2 is only 14 so a change in scenery wouldn't hurt for years 9, 10,11,12.

Also got relatives in Vic who could look after Kid1.

I went into the city last week and got lost. Hate the rat race.

ANyway thanks for letting me air my laundry!

    Cheers

It will cost in excess of $10,000 to relocate, Sleepy.
