Hey, Lotza, I used to be in a share house in the late 60's with a guy who worked in a printery behind the Beauchamp Hotel on Ocko St. and we often had after-work and pre-SCG drinks there. Couple years ago we went in to reminesce and sink a few schooners. First time since about 1972. Jesus wept, didn't we get back outside quickly. Full of raving transvestite pooves, transexuals, and other VERY strange people.
Used to be a Surry Hills working class pub, blue singlets & footy socks, women in head scarves shelling peas and drinking schooners of Old, races radio full volume, permanent bookie, as many drinkers on the footpath as inside, foul mouthed publican who claimed to be related to the presidential Kennedys. Has it changed for the better?

I think i remember a pub like that!
Bill Hunter was the blue singlet wearing publican, Terrence Stamp, Hugo Weaving and Guy Pearce the queens and the entertainment was a "Manila gorilla" firing ping-pong balls around the bar.
Hang on - that was a movie!![]()
