The mid term P38A upgrade of the so-called "runout" model (1995-2002) occurred some time in 1998 I think ...from VIN XA410482. changes included ZF4HP24 auto (from HP22), Bosch electrics and EFI (Motronic 5.2.1), improved ABS modulator and for some, a 4 pin diff in the front as well as the rear one. There were a heap of other smaller component changes as well. Reliability did improve somewhat....

How about a new Puma 90??? Small, sprightly and (may be) sufficiently comfortable. Plus they hold their value better than most landies rangies.
You have a nice trailer for towing the gerdening gear around when needed...

We have an D2 in the drive that doesnt get used day to day now Ive got a company ute.Hasnt been started for 2 weeks:eek::eek::eek:
She has been asking to borrow it for the odd trip instead of HER Rangie.
May be time to NOT buy a P38a,and buy ME a boat:cool::cool::cool::cool::cool:

It's true the D2 doesn't have the panoramic view and commanding driving position of the RRC but SWMBO got used to it and now wouldn't be parted from it at any price. I shudder when I think back to the pain I caused myself when I suggested we trade it, the D2, in on a BT 50 when the it's warranty was about to run out.:(
Someone mentioned earlier that the Ranger and the BT 50 were the same. Not quite. When I looked the spring rates were different and the BT 50 had a significantly lower 'low range'.
I reckon, let the RR 'break down' and encourage her to drive the Disco as much as possible. Theres could a pot of boating gold at the end of this rainbow if you can pull it off.:D Well worth the effort IMHO.

Yep, my two cents is in the buy nothing (for now) camp.
Ask her to persevere with Blackbetty for a bit (that word should never be used with a car that nice) when she needs to go to Perth etc and/or spend some coin on the RRC to keep it ok for work. You may wince when you fork out on the RRC but it won't be as bad as the money you spend getting another car to keep spending on.
Then in a little while you might accidentally end up with a boat. "Whoops, love, it was such a bargain but everyone on AULRO says you're really lucky to have the pick of a D2 and a Rangie":angel:
