    Tassie Pubs

As I will be poping over to tassie next week is there any nice place's in Launceston that has good atmosphere (to take the wife)

Hopefully I will get down to Hobart and accross to Devonport as well so any suggestions would be great.

I do know quit a few of the pubs and poi in Hobart but not north.

Also does anyone know of a good distilleries (whiskey and beer) apart from the norm (boags, cascade, lark)

    Thanks

The pub at the Penny Royal complex was great a few years ago. Old English style inside with good food too.

Cant really help with this one (maybe Jock or Phoenix can) but for eating out I went to the Jailhouse Restaurant which serve very nice meat dishes (like Ball and Chain).

The Royal Oak is a good pub with nice food.
Three Steps on George is pretty good too.
The Cock and Bull has some great food and a wide range of beers on tap.

    All in Launceston

I think the whole penny royal is shut down, possibly permanently, but you would have to ckeck.

For good food and atmosphere, the newstead pub is nice. The Royal on george isn't bad either. Cock and bull is a good one as well. Trying to thinhk of others. The commercial isn't a bad spot either. The royal oak I lived within 50m of for more than 20 years. It's not a bad spot either.

A lot of the pubs in town have had relatively recent renovations and are pretty nice. The metz and the star bar are probably still classed as pubs, but are both a bit fancier.

The Lark Distillery at the Hobart waterfront is worth a look and a taste try, they make a good Pepperberry liquer

Irish Murphy's in Salamanca Pl has Irish draught on tap and great food, I can highly recommend the food.

Also in Launceston, the Boags brewery is worth a visit, very interesting and informative if your a home brewer.

    and the vice versa!!

Irish murphys in launceston is also quite good, and I'm told the cascade brewery tour in hobart is good as well.

    Hi,

All the pubs, bars and restaurants around Salamanca Pl in Hobart are great on a Friday or Saturday night for a 'moveable feast'.

Fresh Boags and Cascade variants on tap at all which are way superior to canned or bottled versions.

Friendly pleasant crowd all times I've been there.

    cheers, DL

I'd have to say the Cock and Bull as well, decent meals and a selection on tap.

The Jailhouse isn't too bad, although I have been disappointed with some of the meals there. The waiters are sure to please though (school friends )

If your looking for a counter meal, the Riverside Pub isn't to bad. A lot more dining space and maybe a bit quieter than the two mentioned above
