Only ever heard of one Explorer catching fire and that's the one on the CSR.

    Baz.
My mate had one that literally burnt to the ground.

They were trying to jump-start some sort of agricultural machinery and it caught fire and they couldn't put it out

The Firestone tyres were the ones supplied with the vehicle. Any vehicle is merely the sum of the parts - in this case the tyres were faulty.

It could have just as easily been a faulty batch of brake pads.

Well... I'm heading to a guy from the local 4wd clubs house tonight.

He's got an exploder... We may have to go for a drive and see if the vehicle can be pushed into neutral at speed.

I know the Discos can, and will kill the cruise instantly...

Me thinks this blokes just full of ****!

Usually touching the brakes disengages cruise control as well.

    My bet is stuck throttle.

It probably would feel like a stuck cruise control.

When he turned the motor off it looks like he ran out of vacuum boost ( hard pedal, but maybe fade) so the motor probably stopped. He must have then restarted and the cycle started again.

BUT its almost beyond belief that the saga went on for so long.

Maybe a mandatory course for learners on how a car works is in order.

I KNOW! I KNOW! PICK ME!
Lets have a special license for drivers of runaway cars! That'll fix the problem!

They do it in Japan and several other countries.

Also in Japan to get a motorcycle licence you have to be able to pick it up from lying on the ground. So there you go . No wimps apply.

    Hi Philip,
I get where you are coming from, and reckon you're not far off the mark. I'm just having a scoff at the bandwagon wanting to seperately license 4X4 drivers
They could at least test for changing wheels.

Picking up a bike, even a Harley or Goldwing, does not require great strength, just the right technique.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

A bit of strength is useful

I dropped my R1200GSA 3 times a couple of weekends ago in some deep sand on a hot day, and I was pretty sweaty but the end of it all.

I prefer to put it on full lock and walk it up from the handlebars, but others like to "walk" it up backwards (i.e. bum to seat, and lift).
