I used to be able to stall in reverse fairly easily in my Td5.
Not a problem any more thanks to the aggressive anti-stall on the puma.

hmmm how do you think that will go down with rach... sorry the new defender stalls in reverse we have to buy a new new one instead!
i think i may die quite quickly!
thanks for the info... its kind of what im beginning to think... cant see why it would be weak in reverse.
Thanks
Steve
All it is is a different fuel map which slightly overfuels the engine in low range.
Cheapest solution would be to get it chipped and remapped or adapt your driving style.
Its not just low range Dobbo, but yep it doesnt seem to work in reverse on mine either.
its not antistall its a governor.
yes it works just fine in every single reciprocating diesel engine ever built regardless of which way you have the load hooked up to it.
The trick is not to exceed the engines available torque output at its current idle speed when you hook the load up.

The TD5 does have anti-stall, as do all modern vehicles. Take any modern manual 4WD, especially a turbodiesel, put it in first low and without touching the pedals see how far you go. It's often very surprising.
It's just that Land Rover made a big song and dance about the version fitted to the Puma which is particularly good.
