Go the 300tdi, I am with Simon.

My best mate has a Isuzu and he loves it, makes me hate it even more especially when I hear him 2 blocks away.

A mate of mine has driven from Germany to India in a 300tdi, and we're rebuilding another one here (will post in the P&T subforum soon) to drive from Australia to Australia, through six continents. Our choice was based on the complete lack of electronic engine management, and the fact that most fixable problems can be fixed with a set of spanners and a big hammer. I'm not trying to take away from the merits of later engines - personally I love the TD5, - but to give an example, we met a Swiss couple while driving through Pakistan, they had bought the latest and greatest for their trip, and they rolled their Deefer into a shallow lake (a few feet of water) while driving to Gilgrit. The ECU got wet in the process, and it cost 5000 euro to have a new one shipped out and fitted. Sure, they may have been extremely unlucky, but if it were a tdi, chances are you could have pulled it out, left it standing for a bit to dry off, and started it straight up.

out of the Landy donks, i would say the 200, its has all the benifits of the 300 but with out that vacume pump, P gasket and serpentine belt. and i know of no one who has had problems getting parts, but then thay doint need many lol.

TD5 buit then theres the electrics, you can say the same about the V8 to many electrics.

    V8 auto on sand, brilliant

I've had 2.25's,2.6,300Tdi,3.9 V8 and 3.0TD and the 3.0TD is first with the Tdi and 2.25's a close second.I found the isuzu an equired taste because of it's limited rev band but they are a good engine, the 3.0TD does everything the isuzu does but with less fuel, noise and most important vibration.I can't fault my 11 year old bullet proof Tdi-R380 Defender or my 3.9-ZF disco but once again the 3.0TD just did it better. You would be supprised how easily they do 100 in a 60 zone with the ''little'' BMW donk, you would be more supprised how quickly they hit 140 while your changing CD's!!. Pat
