Obviously not born in the tropics, or Brisbane even.Thankfully the Cockies, Fruit bats and other sundry wildlife have once again finished dropping all the mangos in my back yard and the tree is at long last bare of fruit agai
It's a taste acquired from birth and nurtured by sitting in the bath eating mangoes and throwing the seeds out the window. Hmmm I feel like one now and there are some in the fridge.

Hey what are the best type of mangoes to buy anyway ?
These days down here in Vic we can only seems to get these bloated oversized, overripe things that have no real flavour.
I like my mango a bit tangy/acidy and strong flavour ( Philippines or Indian mangoes were my favourite when I was in Asia )
It seems all the flavour has been bred out in favour of these huge things that taste like weak sweet cordial.
I haven't really seen much since i've been home, but my normal costomer who I have swapped squid for Mango's with for years never came down so not sure if they were plentiful here or not.
You can freeze them whole no problems, we take them to sea like that and thaw them and eat them like a frozen mango ice block...YUM...
As for the flying foxes, should be open slather on them critters,.John, have you tried some net over the tree, I see it quite often up here , but not sure how sucessful it is..
Mangoes...Bring them on...
Cheers Ean
Yes Ean nets are the only "LEGAL" solution down my way.But like everything they cost a fortune. On my way to the Cape a couple of years ago we camped overnight near Mackay and all night a bloody shotgun went off at intervals. After a sleepless night went to find out where the war was and it was the only way this mango farmer could keep the mongrels off his crop.
They are a menace.
