RIP Bucko - Riding on Forever
To be honest Dave, I would have done it 4 times over to get away from Port Hedland and my job up there... Some of the people I met were fantastic but the town itself was just too hard, and the Council was a nightmare to work for (Despots and Croneys).
The trip itself was a fantastic experience, and I'd love to do it again, albeit with more time up my sleeve to enjoy the trip and take it slower. It showed me that you don't need a huge 4x4 and heaps of gear to see our country - and taught me a lesson or two about economical use of space and how to pack a vehicle properly.
If I did it again? I would have done away with one of the suitcases and made sure the guitar went on the truck - it would have been much easier to have had that bit more room and a view out the back window.
I also would use what I know now about packing to shift the weight closer to the front seats - the first two days the car handled like a dog because I had so much weight over the back axle - shifted the jerry cans to the front of the rack and swapped the jerry of water behind the passenger seat instead of the overnight bag and it was a different beast altogether.
Thanks!by the way Welcome to Vic
I recognize those roads and buildings between Adelaide and Melbourne. Not surprising really, considering I drive between Horsham and Adelaide 12 or more times a year! You would have driven almost right past my place, we are only a couple of streets back from the main road in Horsham.
It looks like you had a good trip, I took much longer to do a similar trip in my Kingswood years ago.
What an epic journey, glad all survived the trip.
