Went to the drive-in last night

My 19 yo son works at the Village Cinemas in Shepparton. This Cinema, probably like most others employs a lot of young casuals. (like macas)

For their Christmas "Do" they all decided to hire a bus and go down to Melbourne to the Coburg Drive-In.

This is where I fit in. They needed a bus driver and as I have the appropriate licence I was asked if I would drive them.

The movie didn't finish until midnight, so it was about 12.15 by the time we drove out. With the mandatory stop at Wallan for Macas it was 2.30 am when we arrived back at Shepparton.

After every one had got all their gear from the bus I then had to return it to the hire place. 3.20 I got home.

I had a fantastic time with a great bunch of people, about 20 of, mostly teenagers with me being 44 yo, they played trivia games enroute and I was allowed to play.

What movie did we see, Avatar.

What did I think of it? Not my cup of tea. It was ok but I am glad I did not have to pay to see it.

Coburg Drive-In being a Village we could all get in for free and we got a staff discount in the kiosk.

    Dave.

Good for you to do the driving..and glad everyone had a great time.

My wife grew up in Shepparton and as a youngster went to the Shepparton drive-in quite often. It was - in those days - probably the best local entertainment that was available in the late '50's.

Pity a lot of the Drive-in theatres have closed down. There is only one here in the Sydney area now - Blacktown - and quite a lot of people go there.

They were a bit of an icon years ago.

(We used to get up to all sorts of mischief )

The Shepparton Drive-In has just gone the way of a lot of the others.

It has been closed for about four years and has just been turned into a big shopping complex, so new that it only opened about three weeks ago with about fifty percent of the shops not yet being leased.

Well, there you go...and they call it Progress

"Entertainment"...sadly... these days often seems to end up with someone being attacked - or worse....

    Thanks for the reply Dave.

    Have a Happy Christmas.

I have great memories of the drive inns back home. Every weekend during the summer we were there getting into mischief, all harmless fun. It was the meeting place before hitting the clubs afterwards (which usually ended up being a race to see who could get to the club the quickest, still amases me that no one has been killed on that stretch of road).
Good on you Dave for driving.
I am in your neck of the woods.
Your in the Shepparton 4wd club aren't you?

    Crash,
No I am not in the Shepparton 4x4 club (which I think is actually the Goulburn Valley 4X4 Club) are you?

I am in the landrover Owners Club Of Vic.

Charters Towers has a great drive in, a bit of history and we go there every time we visit FNQ.
Was the first Drive in my kids have been to, and it is thousands of KM from home! Pity there aren't too many left

Good on ya for taking the kids to the drive in but I can't believe you didn't like Avatar, just out of curiosity did you get the messages in the movie?
