    200 tdi series 3

I picked up my series 3 cab chassis from justin and paul at kingston TAS about 3 weeks ago and have to say that the 200tdi into a series 3 is a ripper of an idea. My old 2.25 petrol was getting noisy and through fellow aulro member I got onto a near unused 200tdi defender engine in sydney. I wanted to keep the landy as a truck so kept the 4.7 diffs so it pulls like train but gets noisy above 70 kmh ( i keep finding myself automatically going for 5th which there isnt), therefore I bought a overhauled fairey overdrive from some fellow series lovers in Hobart. When I work out how to do it ( when the wife shows me how ) i will take photo's and post them, the truck should be good in the bush too. I picked up my old motor from Justins workshop today and it was buggered. Curiosity got the better of me so I pulled of the head and got the pistons out and every piston had a broken top compression ring broken says something for the durability of those old motors they keep going even when shagged, if any one wants some parts or a very effective anchor let me know.

Keen to see pics. Sounds good. I would suggest you sell the fairey and buy a roverdrive though. Or speak to Ashcroft about fitting an LT77S or R380.

When I pulled my original 2.25P out, the top compression rings on 1, 2 and 4 were broken in half, the ring on 3 was broken into 7 pieces, which had embedded themselves in the piston...

    Nice conversion.
Could be worth trying the 3.54 diffs if you are keeping the 4 speed.
    See in the Ser3 section,TJWA is currentley converting a 88" Ser3 into a 200tdi and 5 speed.
Looking forward to a few pics.

right here ya go **** photos cos its raining but you'll get the drift ill try get some better ones.

as ya can see it sits low but is on std 2.25 petrol mounts.

There is a intercooler tucked in front of the radiator (300tdi) and a 9row oil cooler on the other side.
The turbo has been twisted and the wastegate refitted onto the housing a drill and tap job. it has to be done and the whole in the guard is needed just not so big i had to get the turbo back off!
I looked into different ideas for the exhaust but cutting the bulk head bracket and going through the chassis seemed to be the freest flowing and most tucked up option.

Other things ya need to do.

    #1 Don't be cheap!

#2 Counter bore cap screws into the backing plate so the bottom is held tight - to the motor

#3 Tap the two studs into the bottom of the backing plate and remove the - extra ya don't need.

#4 new series 3 clutch plate, 200tdi pressure plate, spigot bearing, release - - bearing, rear main seal and gasket, and do the timing belt (so much easier - with the motor out).
    - also read everything you can.

#5 You do need longer bump stops also. I thought it was bull****. my diff hit - my crank the other day!
