Yep, strip the sea bare to make pellets to feed the farmed prawns. Same probably goes for most farmed fish.![]()
Gday All,
just watched A current affair and there guide to best seafood Deals..
Atleast they promoted Aussie seafood, but was disappointed to see the supermarket seafood boss promote Vanimie imported prawns as a great budget prawn and equal to australian prawns..Wish they would tell people where they really come from and how they grow and feed them...They wouldn't sell very many then im sure.
The Big 2 seem to not care where it comes from or who they support as long as they get a sale.
Cheers Ean

I had a job driving a coastal barge during our off season afew years back and we used to take the feed out to a barra farm and bring the barra back.
The sacks of pellets had stamped on them DO NOT feed to livestock, dogs cats, horses...You have to wonder what they do put in them fish feed pellets, dont think a hell of alot of it comes out of the ocean.
Cheers Ean
What about the Ads on TV promoting THAILAND SEAFOOD?
When we were in Alaska a few years ago there was a big push to educate the world about farmed fish. They had a bumper sticker that read "I'd rather dye than eat farmed salmon".
Salmon only turn red when the start to spawn and swim back upstream to their breading grounds.
Now back on to the pellets... Farmed salmon are feed lots of growth hormones, just lick chicken are and of course they don't spawn. So how do you think they farm "Red" salmon?
As for the prawns Ean, I'm sure the big supermarket chains would gladly buy from you if they could nail your price down to 5% of what it costs you to catch them. Look at what they have done to dairy, market garden and other food goods.
