I would say see it too. The effects are absolutely wonderful. It's worth it just for that.

IMHO the plot is good enough to get through. I just feel it could have been better. Obviously I'm being cautious not to spoil it for anyone that hasn't seen it. I remember leaving the first matrix with my brain spinning from the paradigm shift. Avatar didn't do that for me.

Avatar is the greatest ever - the movie is not necessarily about the story line - yes predictable - but who predicted the tree would go - it is about the visual experience.

I also saw it in the 3d version and I'd say the experience is sublime.

I really enjoyed it and thought the 3D and computer graphics were awesome but the storyline reminded me of the whole John Smith and Pocahontas one, only in a different context. Funny political undertone about destroying the planet all for the sake of minerals, etc. Still, great concept.

I think 3D is a gimmick, and CGI is a bit of a cop out.

    Not any more...

I thought Avatar was bloody brilliant! The effects and use of 3D was just right - I can't stand "3D" movies that are esentially 2D, but every now and then a random object morphs into 3D and gets in your face.

I am a harsh critic, but I give it 8/10 for storyline, 9/10 for visuals, and 10/10 for Zoe Saldana being hot - even when she is blue and has a tail...

I agree with the others that the plot was predictable and the storyline nonexistant/unoriginal. 2/10 for both of those.

However, I think the world they created for the movie was amazing, the 3D visuals and effects were great. Overall I thought it worth seeing (we saw it in IMAX 3D). I don't think I would pay to see it in 2D though.

We just went to see Avatar this evening. The 3D effects are spectacular, and the music is effective and well played, but the story line is crap! All the typical Yank cliches and stereotyped characters, and it ended up being a mixture of "Star Wars", "Alien xxx", "Lord of the Rings" (for the backdrops), etc. etc. and - Sigourney Weaver is in great danger of being type cast.

I liked the reference near the beginning referring to Jake's record as a marine in Venezuela and Nigeria. Are these to be the next countries on the list?

Visually impressive, but forget anything else IMHO.

    Cheers,

    Lionel

I'll admit that the quality of the plot was so bad IMHO I had some Starship Troopers flashbacks

You still need to see it though.
