    Camping Trip Mid Jan

    hey guys,

    Im planing a trip in mid January for a week, so im trying to work out ideas on where to go.

    Basically i would like to try and do a 4wd track to the beach and maybe some beach driving....if that is possible. If the beach driving isnt possible then i would like to know if anyone knows a track that goes to a nice beach.

    I would like to camp aswell and have a camp fire i would also like to do a bit of fishing. So the area in which i am looking is VIC/NSW anywhere in those two states.

    South Coast NSW Batemans Bay to Narooma, no beach driving but many tracks to beach and camping areas, miles of trails in the mountains behind the coast.
    I doubt if campfires will be allowed unless we get a heap of rain, Regards Frank.

    Have you thought about good old Stockton Beach just past Newcastle there is more excellent beach driving there then just about anywhere this side of Queensland, plenty of good spots to camp in the dunes you would have to check about lighting light fires though but there is some great fishing on the beach.

    Stockon is from memory 32 km long, I'd enter from the Anna Bay end though.

    Once you have had ebough of the beach then if you drive for about a hour and a half up along Buckets Way your at Glouster and then up into Barrington Tops which is a whole different world with some lovely places to camp.

    It can be well above 40 degrees at Stockton in summer and at the other end of the extreme in winter it can snow at Barrington Tops.

    Just a thought...

    Its not quite in NSW or Vic but, we have the longest and best beaches in the country sand for 1500kms in all directions however with global warming the tide is out a long way. The sand only comes in one colour RED.

    Gota love livin in Alice Springs.

    Anyway from what I remember anywhere on the south coast of NSW or Vic is great. Sun, sand, surfin and fishing what else could you ask for.

    Not in your mentioned preferences but what about Robe in SA. Top spot for beach driving and plenty of camping spots.

    A side benifit if you go there you can save up all your empty beer cans and take them with you and get 10 cents a can.

    A couple of thousand cans and you're fuel is paid for. When I was in Robe I found this to be a good incentive to drink more

    Think about the Croajingalong NP, near Cann River. 100km of pristine beaches. Can't drive on the beach, but there's some nice drives through the bush to get down to the beachs.
    Wingan Inlet, in the park, is a magic place, has an inlet which is great for canoeing/fishing. Plus a surf beach.
    The track in to Wingan is sandy, not really 4WD, but there are other tracks to explore nearby.
    All the bush camp sites at Wingan will probably be booked out for Jan, but there is a nice overnight stay area there, the Rangers will probably let you stay a couple of nights or three if you chat nicely to them
    There's fireplaces there too, but you're likely to get total fire ban days.
    Only problem is that the fresh water supply wasn't working last time I was there - so take plenty.
