If its NEVER had a thermostat there is your answer to overheating.Without a thermostat the coolant circulates thru the radiator too quickly to release its heat thru the core.It would be a shame to see your Landy go for the sake of a $10 part!!!!
Andrew
OK andy i will go get 1 tomorrow & some new coolant & try it out . everyone cross your fingers & hope .Hey andy should i drill the holes in it like you said or just leave it as is...
Don't bother with the coolant just yet, wait till you get it right, you saying it doesn;t have a thermostat at all?, well stick one in, has the rad been checked internally? just cause they look pretty on the outside don;t mean lick, then fit/make a ****ing shroud!:)
OK WILL DO
Put a 186 in my old series three some years back . Had similar problem, fitted a shroud that made all the difference. Also chained motor so it could not move forward and launch fan through radiator. 5 Minute job. From what i recall i had nill issues after that. I was in the Atherton tablelands and traveled the ranges weekly towing an old heavy fibreglass boat up and down.
Someone told me it mite have an airlock in the system does anyone know how to check & fix if it this..
Park the car in such a manner that the rad cap is higher than any other part of the cooling system, ramps or natural topography etc.. Turn on heater and fill rad with water allow time for trapped air to rise, (a stubby or two min.) start engine and bring up to temp that will open the thermostat, (if fitted) check and top up coolant (water only at this stage) often. Any water added will be replacing expelled air from the system.
was going to make the cowl today but now it wont be getting one as i have been told if i fit it to the radiater side (frame) that it will void all warranty .& if it turns out to be the rad i'll be up that creek...
i think it time to just get rid of it i've had enough it just keeps geting worse for us..
Thanx for everyones advise threwout the build & good luck to who ever buys it..
