Thats an interesting question, and one that honestly I don't have an answer to. I can't remember what I was aiming to be (at 17, 5th form), I did have some thoughts about becoming a metallurgist with BHP (and applied for schiolarships etc). I ended up going to uni and becoming a surveyor instead. Now I'm with the NSWRFS (nothing to do with surveying though).

I wanted to be a steam train driver.

First attempt out of school was studying physics, never finished that one but just finished industrial design/design and tech.

So now I design models of steam trains

Just out of school, hated every single day of it.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

    It is a good question.

Ever since I can remember I wanted to be a pilot. So I did. I drove planes around commercially for 9 years until I got really sick and lost my medical certificate, then I had to find something else to do. Now I'm a Police officer in the Highway Patrol.

I was always told, and it's true, the HSC isn't the be all and end all - and nowadays it's common for people to pass through different career paths over their lifetime. I think the key is to find something you like doing and get good at it...if you can make a living out of it then that's great. The main thing is that you enjoy life.
