    Sand Filter Question

I changed my pool filter sand over the weekend and wanted to know whether it is better for the sand to back-wash regularly or only when the pressure is high indicating blockage?
If the answere is regularly - how often?
    Thanks guys

depending on brand, cheeper ones tend to run a bit higher or if it undersized or over pumped.

normal running 50-60 psi back wash at 75 - 85 psi.

sand filters actualy work a bit better when a bit dirty. back wash untill runing clear, rince for 20 seconds only. its not realy a rince its just to settle the sand back down. pump off between each movment of the valve IE no pressure or you could pop off the spider gasket
