    Floods

Some of you must have been affected by the resent rain.
I went to Sydney for the new year and have come back to a heap of trashed fences here due to flash flooding.
Lost a bit of top soil as well
All the dust storms has now washed away

Yesterday my sister who lives next door to me could not get out by her regular route - came through my place, the creek here was less than a foot over the sand and not running very fast. The Talbragar was still about six feet under the bridge (although I note from the river reports it has risen about half a metre since then and is still rising.)

We were in Nundle (just out of Tamworth) yesterday and a big flash flood came through, they got alot of rain
The flood waters went well over the bridge into Nundle and destroyed a toilet block in the show grounds.

Went into town again today (long story!). Talbragar is now only a metre or less below the bridge. My next door neighbour was trying to get two cows with calves to go across the bridge. I tried helping him but they eventually broke away upriver. He wants to get them across because the bridge will probably be under by this afternoon.

I returned from town through the forest. Road is in good condition and dusty. Only problem was there is a tree about two feet in diameter has fallen across the road, but you can get round it.

Here in Brisbane's inner East, we had a 12mm storm on 22/12/09 and between 9.00am 23rd. and this morning have had over 200mm. My neighbour has a rain gauge. He checked it on the morning of the 23rd and then got into Christmas mode and forgot about it until the morning of the 28th and found it chock full which is 150mm. We had a fierce storm yesterday 3rd. which settled into heavy rain for most of the day into early evening. No rain since but heavily overcast and could rain anytime.

I mowed to tidy the place up for Christmas visitors on the 19th. Dec., first time since September, and all dead grass and sticks. I mowed again yesterday as with the rain, temperature and humidity, some grass was up to eight inches high, and too wet and heavy to throw well into the catcher.

Considerably more than we have had since 1st Dec to now. The highly anticipated Xmas rain gave us 34mm.
