I think old Landies are a bit like a homemade motor scooter. My brother made three motor scooters (pretty good too, although I won't tell him that) a few years ago, and thought he would be able to sell them for a few hundred each.
No-one cares these days if someone puts time into something, and people over-value what their time means to someone (whoever wants a car), I think.
Like more than a few times I have seen 'what's my fully sick modded hilux worth' threads on the 4wdAction Hilux Forums. Then they state how much money and time they put into it, thinking it will be worth bloody heaps, even though all it is, is another crappy old toyota ute with some big tyres, spotlights a bull's horns tramp-stamp on the back window.
I would love a good Series 2a, but would not pay that much for one even if I had the money.
Just my thoughts.......
There are some cars I'd pay good money for.. even if everyone else thought that I was insane.
Like one of the first Range Rovers.. you know the one - 1970 2 door, that poo colour, painted steel wheels, rubber mats, manual sick on the floor.. but it would have to be totally original - ie not restored, poked, prodded, modded, touched, or molested in ANY way. Basically a new car, as it ran out of the factory in the first few days of production.
mmm I would /love/ one of them. (just don't tell my 110)
Hercules: 1986 110 Isuzu 3.9 (4BD1-T)
Brutus: 1969 109 ExMil 2a FFT (loved and lost)
