But without wanting to start a war, the current Puma engine, derived from the Ford Transit is, IMHO, quite an excellent choice of engine for a vehicle such as the current Defender platform - as were the TDI and TD5 engines preceding it
Further to mine re MR Automotive I contacted Dwayne and here is his answer. As you will see it never came off..but my post was put on this forum in good faith

Hi john, yes we were excited at the time about this prospect, BUT it never
    happened !
The dealer salesman at the time told our customer that landrover were going
    to do it but he
    Was full of **** !
    Cheers dwayne

    The ranger has:
    115kW @ 3200rpm
    380Nm @ 1800rpm

However there is a chip available which will increase that to 132kW and 435Nm

The 2.4 in landie-spec has 90kW and 360Nm, but I can't find at what revs.

think it might be 90kw@3500 and 360nm@ 2000rpm but I only found one article so dont shoot me if that is incorrect
Our Land Rover does not leak oil! it just marks its territory.......

We won't shoot you this time, you are correct...

Looking at the torque curve,it's very peaky......,as probably most smaller TD's are, which is why they suit auto's

It's actually in the LR Puma brochure you can get from the stealers.

isn't/wasn't the tdv6 a non landrover engine? I dont belive it will be available in landrovers livery again. therefore very doubtful to be in future defenders.
transits fly with the 2.4 engine.....are they same power in defenders?
