    Zigzag

On Monday I plan to take the kids to do a trip on the Zigzag railway, so if anyone sees me on the way give us a wave. Will be in a blue County.

Took my family recently Big kids enjoyed it as well

Hope its a nice day for you. I did rain a bit wile we were there but added to the excitement as the old Loco was slipping on the tracks a lot. I had no idea how quickly they pick up RPMs

Hope it's better than when we tried to go last year. School Holiday, weekend, couldn't even get in to the car park. So we just drove on to Sydney.

Something I've always wanted to do so will be going back to try again one day.

We did the Mary Valley Rattler in the rain,,
talk about instant wheelspin on the way back up to Gympie!!

and just a question for the rail buffs,,
would they normally use an 040 on bendy tracks?

Pedro, basically, yes. Shorter wheelbase = tighter turning circle. But they were also used where an engine needed to be compact but with good adhesion/traction, such as around steelworks.
Sometimes the sheer lack of size of the engine meant they only needed 4 wheels to take the weight too.

The Zig Zag is way cool, spent many a weekend in the workshops there. My kids loved it there & we became part of an overseas documentary by the French there as well.

Well, the trip went off well. The girls loved it, and we had no problems travelling except for the perennial "are we there yet?". Saw the end of the cleanup after a major truck accident near the Lithgow Gaol turnoff.

Saw a Series 2/2a ute in Capertee, I think it was, on the way there, and about two other Landrovers that I noticed. Traffic was generally pretty light and moving freely for the whole trip.

Was it a limestone 109" truck cab? (presumably out the front of the pub... )

Its a late wide light 2a owned by a local - not sure who but it is usually at the Royal!
