I think you should have had someone proof read that, Vlad!![]()
Rarely is the question asked: Is our children learning? Dubya makes a good point, but I’m not nterested in discussing the woeful nature of our state education system. Not today anyway. Today I’m more interested in parents, and more specifically what in hell’s name they are thinking.
I was told by morning television today (that’s what you watch while eating breakfast, to justify the purchase of that expensive flat screen) that Suri Cruise, a mere 3 year old child, is regularly seen in public wearing high heels. They even had a psychologist on, to tell me how “concerned” I should be. So, I wonder, exactly how concerned should I be? Where does this rate in the “things to be concerned about” stakes? There’s an AIDS crisis in Africa, a horrific humanitarian crisis in Haiti following an earthquake, and a pothole in a roundabout near my home that irks me every time I hit it. Naturally it’s the pothole that irritates me the most, because it’s the one that affects ME directly. That’s just the way of the world, the nature of things. The experts may be right about the damage it’s doing to Suri’s little feet and that TomKat (more on this soon) are irresponsible for allowing or even encouraging it but frankly I don’t care.
I do care about the trend of contracting the names of Hollywood couples into a single name, and then referring to that name in the plural. “TomKat are…”. My wife tells me that means Tom Cruise and Katy Holmes. There was Beniffer (Ben someone and Jennifer Aniston) and Brangelina (Brad Pitt and Angelina “I’ll bet she is” Jolie). I care because it’s bloody annoying and I wish they’d stop.
Closer to home, though, it’s a different story. I have a small tribe of nephews and niece, and naturally I like to think that they’ll grow up much as I did. That is to say, that they be allowed to have a childhood and not have the worries of the world thrust upon them too early. The TV also told me about a children’s party where the kids (very young ones) were having cordial shots with lemonade chasers! Hardly seems appropriate, but I’m sure Kevin will put the price of cordial up to stop that sort of thing. Some time back, some major chain stores were selling G-string underwear for pre-teens. Many, including myself, saw that as sexualisation of children and thus entirely inappropriate. (If you disagree, it’s because you are wrong). However, we must ask ourselves is that K-Mart’s fault? Hardly. They are obviously responding to a market demand. The kids sure as hell wouldn’t ASK for a G-banger… or would they? Kids these days are inundated with images of “teen idols”. They might see Miley Cyrus (ask your kids) dressed up and think “I want to look like that”. They might hear Noah Cyrus, Miley’s 9 year old sister, singing sexually explicit lyrics (check youtube) and will assume that’s acceptable.
So the kids might be asking, but someone is subsequently buying the G-strings, the high-heels, allowing their children to dress up like whores, and putting on the “fake shots” parties. When you next see some of these irresponsible parents, and you will, be sure to let them know what you think. Just don’t blame me when they punch you. My achy breaky heart just couldn’t stand it.
Oh and this has been posted on another forum so I'd ask those who are on both forums to please keep their traps shut on the other forum, regarding my secret identity !
