Apparently when she had that mole on her face, she walked into a bar and the barman said.."Where did you get that?" The mole said, "Stuffed if I know, she started off as a wart.."

Ean - no you are not un-Australian - however I think we need to cut her just a little slack.

She did all you said but later she sacked her father and is now estranged from him.

She made an emotional public apology to Australia in a speech after a game on the court and later explained what was going on in her life at the time of her out burst.

In my mind she had the courage to stand up to her father and to later face the Australian public and say she was wrong. She was only about 18 at the time when she left Australia and she is now a much wiser adult. Her actions since she has been back have shown she was sincere in her apology.

Further to what Garry said, what you see, hear and read about her is what the media want to tell us, which is anything controversial and "entertaining", nothing ordinary or happy.

The girl's got talent and as so often happens, baggage, which is not her fault but something she has to deal with.

Yes, because part of being Australian is giving other people a fair go. Garrycol has given a few reasons why we should cut her a bit of slack.

However, there is an argument for giving people a fair go even if we have doubts about whether they deserve it.

Speaking of women's tennis, I heard a rumour that during the final between the two Belgian comeback queens, there was no grunting or squealing to be heard from the players. That can't be right can it? Isn't it compulsory now for the women to make those unattractive noises as they hit the ball?

Federer has 15 Grand Slam titles - he doesn't grunt. Grunting in tennis (in particular among some of the females) has reached the point of out right cheating, given the noise of the grunt covers the sound made by the racket hitting the ball. Martina Navratilova made this point quite strongly last year - it has to stop...

I saw Maria Sharapova play at Melbourne a couple of years ago, the amount of noise she made was absolutely mind boggling (not to mention unnecessary and embarrassing as a fan of the game).

As for Jelena - she has had a pretty tough time, but if you watched the game last night you would have noticed that during the first game (in which K something :s held serve) Jelena was making pouty faces, drudging about the court and generally sulking like a child - she played some really great tennis last night, but completely lacked any maturity. It got pretty bad in the second set too - even when she won (great) points she looked like she was thinking 'that's all I'm going to get - boo hoo I hate you all'. It's sad because she could have had another amazing run, she had the perfect opportunity and a lot of time to prepare - crowd support is an understatement - and she wasted it.

On that point, the way channel 7 has handled the Dokic buzz over the last few days has been awkward and tacky (at best) - trying to give her the ol' our girl support, while hamming up - and continuously focussing on - all the crap she's been through :s

At least Sharapova's extraordinarily embarrassing first round loss will help the hearing of greater Melbourne!

I did watch somre of the comeback queens match, and its true, there was no grunting at all, amazing and the bits i seen was some of the best tennis I have seen, male or female..

I didnt see or know of the Jenela apology but was amazed at how much support she had last night, and its obviuos that I wasnt the only one who noticed the childish antics...but I guess we all have our off days..

I have had dealings with the media and they can be very bias and downright ******* when they want to be..
