Thread: sluggish td5 at start up

    sluggish td5 at start up

    my td5 is very slow to pickup from start and seems to be getting worse it has to pushed through every gear very hard but still moves like a pig after about 4kms it picks up and runs as good as gold ,full power etc .it was chipped when i bought it its 2002 td5.any ideas would be great

    Maybe turbo wastegate or EGR valve stuck & frees when warmed up. Could be a temp or MAF sensor failing. I'd get someone with Nanocom to do a fault read of ECU , or you could pay Stealers to do it.

    Mine does that too Gordo. (2005 td5)
    I think it is the MAF - although only an (un?)educated guess.
    No faults showing when I had it checked.

    it can also be leak back from the pump or the fuel pressure regulator and the engines purging, you'll know it though if you listen to the pump.

    Thanks Dave, why would this type of fault correct itself after a few kays?
    Maybe hard to describe but what specifically am I listening for?

    as the pump flows fuel into the system and air bleeds out the fuel pressure rises and stabalises giving correct flow to the injectors which means they get a full fill of fuel not a fuel air mix.

    itd sound like pump squeal till it bleeds up and gets some pressure on.
