Koni shocks for LR Defender 110?

For my LR Defender Td5110 CSW (2005), I want the shock absorbers to be in the best possible condition at the start of our overland trip (vehicle will have done about 70,000 km when we start). So I’m considering fitting Konis as replacements for the originals. I don’t plan to make any other changes to the suspension.

One reason for choosing Koni is that I can get them in the UAE, next to Oman, where I live. I’ve been quoted the equivalent of about 600 USD for four Koni “Heavy Track”.

I’m wondering if buying these would be a good idea. The price seems high.

Heavy tracks are a very good shock, the Raid 90's are even better. US$600 for four HT's is a good price in comparison to Australia costs. I've had HT's on my Tdi 110 for about 20,000km and they have been very good. I've just fitted Raid 90's (there's a thread with pic's) to my Puma and they are sensational but they cost a lot more.

I've had my heavy track raids for awhile now and I have to admit I can't fault them. Done some fairly rough and poxy roads in the outback and they've never faded and i spose the good thing is you can rebuild them.

I have been running Koni shocks on my defender 1994 TDI 300 DC130 for the last 60 thousand Km with no complains.
They were a improvement over the standard shocks giving better ride on tarred roads and slightly increased travel off road.
I adjusted mine about half way and had no reason to change the settings.
I would by them again except for the every high cost to what they were years ago .

The Raids are about AUS$600 a piece here. Tried to get some in through JEGS at US$550 a pair but it all turned to nothing as they could not get what they advertised.

$600 USD is a good price for a set delivered to you. Failing buying them that way you can get them through places like shockwarehouse in the US and various others in the US. I got my Bilsteins this way as the exchange rate ws good and I had them delivered to my door form the US in 5 days and less than 1/2 price buying them in Australia.
But as said for the Konis $600 USD is a good price. If I could have afforded them at the time I would have gone Konis, had them on my RRC and they are a fantastic shock.
