Its my gripe about Isuzu owners - they're good, because their ****ing Japanese. You can't then bag a Toyota in the next breath.

Is economy the most important thing? how small are you willing to go?
To put it another way - the best engine fitted to a LR is Japanese. Speaks volumes to me. Doesn't that almost undermine the whole idea of owning a LR?
Might as well not just stop at the engine then?
My thoughts exactly. When in this position, I bought a brand new Hyundai Getz 1.6 manual 3 door, paid $14500 on road - and you'd do better than that from time to time. Went like the clappers, handles decently, 6l/100 on the highway. Couldn't fault it. Girly?? Get over it, I say. I've had Subaru's in various ages and styles and I don't think the design or build quality can be faulted, but all vehicles wear, and the newer you can get the less you'll pay (in CV's etc). And I don't think you'll see the good side of 10l/100km from the Subi either.
Lol Mick I got nailed by an Isuzu truck at every set of lights this morning on my way to work. Its made me cranky haha.
You've been behind me on the open road too - Tdi + auto = bad spread of ratios and undeniably slow.
Would it have happened in my ex 1HDT Toyo? No. Its time truth was spoken, Japanese is Lord.
Put some perspective into that statement...
A Cruiser with the 1HD FTE engine will set you back $45 000 or more.
You can get into a Tdi Disco for $5000.
$40 000 will buy lots of fuel and improvements!
May not be all that popular, but, Volvo's :o devalue savagely - you end up with a lot of second hand car for your money...
