    Don't think that I like auto's anymore.

Had a nice trip on the mainland recently, Tassie to Melbourne by boat then a pleasant drive to S.A.(Yorke peninsula, Riverland, Flinders Ranges)
then on to Broken Hill, some 400ks from Broken Hill the coupling from the auto box to the oil cooler came apart resulting in a sudden stop and a lot of trans fluid down the drivers side of the disco and everywhere.
so after a 4 hour wait for the tilt truck to arrive was driven 80ks to the nearest Town to have the problem fixed.
After a few days at the Hill I left for Melbourne to return to Tassie, 60ks
after leaving Midura another sudden stop on the side of the road, yes the the coupling had let go again not at all happy, this time it was only 2 hours before I was on the road again, stopped frquently on the way to the boat to check the coupling, arrived back in Tassie next morning and got halfway home and it happened again, what a way to end a pleasant holliday. had to suffer the embarrasment of arriving home on a tilt tray.
So what was causing this problem, had another auto box fitted 3000ks back and the hose to the oilcooler had been fitted around the steering box
leaving no slack in it hence the problem, Ive lifted it over the steering box giving it plenty of slack so all I have to do is wait and see what happens
next. ( will have to carry 5 ltrs trans fluid just in case).
Just wonder if any damage has been done to the auto box, as I am going to the Cape in June.

Time to buy a Fender I think.

Did you get the hose replaced entirely? Or just refitted/ clipped back on?

IMHO the connection is very poor if unclipped and reconnected more than once or twice tops. It relies on plastics to grip the ridge on the cooler tube, not a very good design BUT rarely gives problems. When I come across this problem I replace the hose, genuine LR only. Not as exxy as you think, certainly less than tilt tray trips and worrying about reliability.

PM me if you need more info etc.

Yep, I've done one before. They replaced the whole pipe and no more problems related to that part. I think the part for me at least was about $220.

    Yep

Did one in our 04 TD5 20kms out of Ouyen on a Saturday.
    Trailered to Mildura.
Rang Enzed and a local machinery repair place.
Both did a magnificent job on the Sunday and had us back on the road Monday morning.
The Enzed guy made a better coupling but I haven't completely checked it out yet.

as an engineer, i can sympathise [ron, spell check] with you, but don't blame the auto for poor maintenance.
