Patrick McGorry wins Australian of the Year | News.com.au

Didnt take long did it ?

Why is it that over the last couple of years winning an Aus day award seems to qualify you to comment on Government policy.

Does KRudd think that if the winner makes comments like this the rest of the country will jump onboard and then give him the justifcation to close the centres?

Yep congrats to all that received awards.
But sick of them using it for political and agenda pointscoring. Not the time and place to go on about assylum seekers. Also people being awarded for doing their job or making lots of money playing sport.
As soon as you start doing that the award should be taken away.
As for the inquest into the boat explosion being critical of the Navy picking up their people before the boat people, well sorry but that is the way it is and should be. Your own team always comes first, then the people needing rescuing.

I like the awarding of Young Australian of the Year to Trooper Mark Donaldson VC, a great Australian and a true hero. But, I thought the award was for people 16 to 25 and he is 30. Close I suppose.
